PTs use an individual's history and physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and establish a management plan and, when necessary, incorporate the results of laboratory and imaging studies like X-rays, CT-scan, or MRI findings. PT management commonly includes prescription of or assistance with specific exercises, manual therapy and manipulation as well as IMS, mechanical devices such as traction, education, physical agents which includes heat, cold, electricity, sound waves, assistive devices, prostheses, orthoses and other interventions. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles, providing services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. This includes providing therapeutic treatment in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. Functional movement is central to what it means to be healthy.

Osteopathic therapy is a type of healthcare that focuses on the musculoskeletal system and its impact on overall health. It is based on the principles of osteopathic medicine, which was developed by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in the late 19th century. Here’s a brief overview of what it involves:

Holistic Approach: Osteopathic therapy views the body as an integrated whole, where each part affects and is affected by the others. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body's systems and aims to treat the root causes of symptoms rather than just the symptoms themselves.

Manual Techniques: Practitioners, known as osteopathic physicians (DOs) or osteopaths, use their hands to perform various techniques. These may include stretching, gentle pressure, and resisted movements to improve the function of the muscles and joints.

Diagnosis and Treatment: Osteopathic therapy involves diagnosing and treating conditions related to the musculoskeletal system, such as back pain, joint issues, and headaches. It also often addresses broader issues like posture, body mechanics, and lifestyle factors.

Preventive Care: In addition to treating current issues, osteopathic therapy often includes recommendations for preventive care to help maintain overall health and prevent future problems.

Integration with Conventional Medicine: Osteopathic therapy can be used in conjunction with conventional medical treatments. Osteopathic physicians are fully licensed medical doctors who can prescribe medications and perform surgeries if necessary.

Overall, osteopathic therapy is designed to enhance the body's natural healing processes and improve overall function and well-being.
